The one problem most people have when seeking some web design & development is pricing. This is a fair point, most things do come down to cost. The crux of the issue has become determining what is a fair price for the amount of work involved and then convincing a potential client that what they are getting for this price is a fair deal for both parties. The sad reality is that people don’t have an understanding of the amount of time and sheer level of work involved in creating a website/design. It inevitably ends up being a battle to convince a client that you are worth what you quote.
I have seen some pretty bad web design & development in my time, but sadly, a lot of it has to do with choosing a freelancer or company based on the lowest quoted price solely. If the price is too good too be true, then it is just that. A client will get exactly what they pay for, so the less they offer to pay the less they get. This is exactly what you should expect with web design/development. You don’t expect to buy a second-hand used car and come out with a brand new Rolls Royce?
Below is one of the most perfect representations of how to explain the process of design/development to your clients. This was designed by Colin Harman, and while it does reference graphic design, it is almost exactly the same for the web development.
